DIY me a favor

With Pinterest taking over whatever gaps HDTV left in the crafting market, the store-bought wedding and shower favor industry has to be taking a hit.

Since the Summer is rudely making it too hot to comfortably sit on porches drinking wine, Beth and I went to Jo-Ann Fabrics to find an outdoorsy craft to ease our guilt about sitting inside on a beautiful Saturday afternoon watching Dawson's Creek re-runs.

Lauren's shower provided the perfect occasion.

The garden party-themed shower had a heavy emphasis on girly-stuff, with plenty of pink and green mixed in with both the cut and planted flowers. So what better way to give our guests a lasting experience than to let their own gardens grow?

The idea, which Beth found on Pinterest, was relatively simple, and came in at under $3.00 per favor. Not bad, right?

We used chalkboard paint on small terra cotta pots, in a square (which we agreed upon after a heated square vs. rectangle debate), and then portioned dirt into bags, attached chalk and seeds and scrawled a love message on the front for Lauren and Scott.
