New Site to Watch: HipSwap
I've met enough creepy dudes in parking lots to know that I don't want to do it again (and no, I'm not talking about visits to the South Side). I'm a Craigslist fanatic, but hate the moment where you have to pick a mutually non-scary location to meet the alleged buyer of the alleged good and walk in with a pocketful of cash and hopes that you won't end up like the Lifetime movie about Craigslist.
So when I saw on Twitter that Kyle Richards was selling some of her favorite items on HipSwap, I obviously checked it out (is there rehab for Bravo addicts?).
It turns out that the site is an online marketplace where you can "discover what's inside the most fabulous closets, homes and shops in your neighborhood, or anywhere in America!" What that appears to mean is that pretty much anyone can list things, but they're hoping to appeal to the A-list demographic (maybe a few barely Bs for charity).
I was disappointed not to see an entertainment category, given that it would be the perfect marketplace for place settings, china and wine glasses, but did see a few promising items in more established markets like New York and LA.
My verdict is that this work in progress has a bit of a ways to go until I stop perusing the "free stuff" category on Craigslist, but the delivery service is seriously interesting to me. What do you think of the site? Would you try selling something? Buying?
